Project Overview
We completed approximately 500 m² of custom flake epoxy flooring for B2R Motorsport’s automotive workshop and customer-facing showroom in Ingleburn, NSW 2565. The system combined mechanical concrete preparation, two coats of 100% solids epoxy, an owner-selected decorative flake blend and two clear polyaspartic protective topcoats.
The area needed to function as a working automotive environment while presenting well when customers entered the premises. The owner wanted a floor that suited the workshop’s identity, created a cleaner and more professional setting, and was easier to sweep, vacuum and wash than untreated concrete.
The installation was completed over four days. Weather affected the available coating and curing windows, so we organised each stage around suitable conditions rather than rushing the next layer.

The Client’s Flooring Brief
This project required a balance between appearance and practical workshop use. The floor needed to work across a large automotive area while giving customers a consistent, professional first impression.
The customer selected their preferred epoxy supplier and product system for the project. The workshop owner also selected the decorative flake combination to coordinate with the premises rather than using a generic solid-colour finish. We carried out the concrete preparation and complete multi-layer installation without implying any manufacturing relationship with the unidentified supplier.
Because the flakes are distributed during installation, their exact placement develops naturally across the wet coating. This gives the completed B2R Motorsport floor an individual appearance.
Mechanical Concrete Preparation
The performance of a commercial epoxy floor depends heavily on the substrate beneath it. We mechanically ground the concrete to remove weak surface material and contamination, open the surface and create a suitable mechanical profile for the coating system.
We also prepared the accessible edges and perimeter areas and used industrial dust extraction during the grinding work. After preparation, the slab was thoroughly vacuumed, cleaned and visually inspected before coating began.
This mechanical concrete preparation created the controlled foundation needed before the first epoxy layer was applied across the approximately 500 m² workshop and showroom.
First 100% Solids Epoxy Primer Coat
We applied the first coat of 100% solids epoxy directly over the mechanically prepared concrete. Its purpose was to create the initial bond between the slab and the flooring system while establishing a consistent foundation for the layers that followed.
Careful application was important across an area of this size so coverage remained controlled throughout the workshop and customer-facing showroom.
Second 100% Solids Epoxy Base Coat
A second 100% solids epoxy primer/base coat was then installed. This increased the coating build, provided a more consistent background beneath the decorative finish and created the wet receiving layer for the custom flakes.
The customer selected the epoxy supplier used for the project, while we managed the surface preparation, application sequence and installation across the full floor area.
Custom Owner-Selected Flake Broadcast
The workshop owner personally selected the decorative flake blend to suit B2R Motorsport’s appearance and identity. We broadcast the flakes into the wet second epoxy coat to create consistent decorative coverage across the workshop and showroom.
The positioning of individual flakes naturally varies during broadcast, so the completed pattern is unique to this installation rather than a repeated printed design. Once the flake layer was ready, the surface was prepared for the clear protective coating stages.
Two Clear Polyaspartic Protective Topcoats
We applied two clear polyaspartic topcoats—not one—over the decorative flake layer.
The first clear coat sealed the decorative flakes, helped lock the system together and created the first exposed protective layer. The second coat increased the clear coating build and provided additional protection against normal foot and vehicle traffic, light abrasion, routine cleaning and everyday workshop contamination.
The two-coat clear finish also supports easier day-to-day maintenance than untreated concrete while protecting the decorative layer beneath. Like any coated floor, it still requires sensible care and suitable cleaning methods.
Four-Day Weather-Managed Installation
The 500 m² installation was completed over four days. Weather conditions affected the coating and curing program, so we scheduled each stage around suitable application and recoat conditions.
On a multi-layer system, allowing each layer to reach the appropriate stage before continuing is more important than rushing the program simply to finish earlier. We managed the sequence around the available conditions without inventing fixed curing times or environmental readings.
The Completed B2R Motorsport Floor
The completed floor is a seamless custom flake epoxy surface suited to the practical and visual needs of the automotive premises. It creates a more consistent appearance across the workshop, supports a professional customer experience and is easier to sweep, vacuum and wash than bare concrete.
The sealed surface helps reduce the normal dust associated with untreated concrete and provides a practical base for routine workshop maintenance. Its appearance reflects the owner’s selected decorative blend and is individual to the B2R Motorsport premises.

Depending on use and wear, a future clear maintenance coat may be considered before the decorative layer becomes exposed; there is no fixed recoat period for every workshop.

This B2R Motorsport project demonstrates how a coating system can be organised around a client’s operational and visual requirements. The owner selected the epoxy supplier and custom flake combination, while we completed the mechanical preparation and multi-layer installation across approximately 500 m².
