A practical finish for a multi-use basement

Mechanical surface preparation

The existing concrete was mechanically prepared to create a clean, open surface ready for the resin system. First 100% solids epoxy coat

Second 100% solids epoxy coat

A second 100% solids epoxy coat added body to the system and provided the receiving layer for the decorative flake broadcast. Using two epoxy coats created a substantial base before the clear protective layers were added.

Full Eggshell flake broadcast

The Eggshell decorative flakes were broadcast across the wet epoxy to create the selected appearance. A consistent broadcast was important in an open basement because uneven distribution would be readily visible across long sightlines. Once the layer had cured, loose and standing material was removed so the surface was ready for clear coating.

Two clear polyaspartic topcoats

The floor was completed with two clear polyaspartic topcoats. These layers encapsulate the flake, build the finished surface and make routine cleaning more practical. The clear coats also bring depth to the Eggshell blend, revealing the subtle variation in the decorative aggregate while keeping the overall result light and cohesive.
