We completed this gunmetal metallic epoxy floor in Lakemba NSW 2195 for a showroom-style automotive application. Although the work was carried out within a single-garage-sized space, we approached it as an automotive showroom floor coating—not as an ordinary residential garage coating. The aim was a seamless, reflective and easy-to-clean surface with the depth, presentation and durability expected from a high-end automotive showroom floor.

The system was built over mechanically prepared concrete using two epoxy primer/base coats, one custom gunmetal metallic epoxy design layer and two clear polyaspartic protective topcoats. This layered approach supports reliable adhesion, creates an even base for the decorative finish and protects the metallic movement beneath.

How we installed the metallic epoxy showroom floor

Reliable metallic epoxy flooring begins with concrete floor preparation. We used the following 12-step process to construct the floor system from the substrate up:

1. Initial inspection and preparation. We inspected and prepared the existing concrete before mechanical work began.
2. Mechanical concrete grinding. We ground the surface to remove contamination, open the concrete and create a suitable profile for coating adhesion.
3. Edges and dust control. We completed detailed edge preparation and used industrial dust extraction throughout the grinding work.
4. Cleaning and inspection. We cleaned and inspected the prepared substrate before applying any coating.
5. First epoxy primer coat. We applied the first coat to penetrate and bond with the mechanically prepared concrete.
6. Second primer/base coat. We applied a second coat to create an even background and reduce inconsistencies beneath the metallic finish.
7. Gunmetal metallic design layer. We applied the custom gunmetal metallic epoxy across the prepared base.
8. Wet blending and movement. While the material was wet, we worked and blended it to produce natural movement, colour variation, depth and a one-of-a-kind pattern.
9. Controlled cure. We allowed the metallic layer to cure under controlled conditions before adding the protective finish.
10. First clear polyaspartic topcoat. We applied the first clear protective coat over the decorative layer.
11. Second clear polyaspartic topcoat. We added a second topcoat to improve long-term wear protection, cleanability and surface durability.
12. Final inspection. We checked the completed floor, edges and overall finish before completing the project.

A custom finish that cannot be identically repeated

Metallic epoxy is especially effective for showroom flooring in Sydney because every design develops differently during installation. The movement of the metallic pigments creates individual highlights, darker areas and flowing transitions while the material is wet. The completed pattern on this Lakemba floor is therefore unique and cannot be identically reproduced.

Like any working floor, this system is not completely scratch-proof, damage-proof or maintenance-free. Sensible cleaning, clean tyres and prompt removal of abrasive grit or contamination will help preserve its appearance.

Service life and future maintenance

This multi-layer system was designed to provide more than ten years of service under suitable conditions. Actual lifespan depends on traffic levels, tyre condition, cleaning methods, environmental exposure and ongoing maintenance, so this should not be read as an unconditional guarantee.

If the clear finish becomes dull or visibly worn after several years, we may recommend a maintenance polyaspartic recoat. A timely refresh coat can restore gloss and protection while helping avoid removal and replacement of the complete metallic system.
