Commercial Polished Concrete — Sydney Outlet Village

We completed mechanical concrete grinding and polishing across 250 m² within a new retail tenancy at Sydney Outlet Village, formerly Fashion Spree, in Warwick Farm near Liverpool. The existing concrete was to remain visible as the finished floor, so our objective was to create a clean, consistent and light-reflective surface ready for the presentation and operation of the new store.

Consistency mattered across the full retail floor because every part of the concrete would contribute to the finished appearance. This was not a single grinding pass. We worked through controlled preparation and refinement stages, inspecting the slab between passes so each stage could build on the surface created by the previous one.

Mechanical Grinding and Preparation

We first assessed the existing slab against the required finish and planned the sequence for the main floor, accessible edges and detailed areas. Initial diamond grinding opened the concrete surface and established a consistent working profile for the stages that followed.

Across the main floor, we used controlled, overlapping machine passes to avoid untreated strips and keep the preparation consistent over the 250 m² area. Accessible perimeter sections and detailed areas received separate attention with equipment suited to working closer to edges. We cleaned the floor between stages so residue from an earlier pass would not interfere with the next diamond-tooling stage.

Progressive Refinement to 800 Grit

An 800-grit polished-concrete finish is achieved through progressive refinement, not by moving directly from coarse grinding to the final polish. We moved through increasingly fine diamond-tooling stages, with each stage reducing the scratch pattern left by the one before it.

That process required consistent machine speed, overlapping passes and regular visual checks across the floor. Edge areas were refined to blend with the main floor wherever they were accessible. Cleaning between stages also made it easier to inspect the developing surface and identify any area that needed further attention before continuing.

The final 800-grit stage produced a refined, light-reflective commercial finish. It was not intended to imitate a mirror finish; the goal was a practical, professionally polished concrete surface suited to a modern retail environment. After the final polishing stage, we thoroughly cleaned and inspected the floor.

Project Outcome

The completed 250 m² floor gave the new store a clean and consistent polished-concrete appearance, with the natural variation of the concrete remaining visible across the tenancy. The finished surface provided:

• A professionally refined 800-grit finish
• A consistent appearance across the main retail floor
• A practical finished concrete surface for a modern store
• A floor ready for the next stage of the fit-out and opening
